Comet Medicine is a new start-up company poised to leverage the power of active microbial communities to address high unmet medical needs. Comet was founded by two leading academics in the microbiome field (Stanford Professors Michael Fischbach and Dylan Dodd) as well as Venrock, one of the oldest venture capital funds in the United States.

Reporting to the Gnotobiotic Facility Head, the gnotobiotic technician, is responsible for assisting the gnotobiotic head with all aspects of the vivarium facility. Key tasks include the following:


At least one of the following is required: (i) 2-4 year degree in a biological science discipline, (ii) one to two years of laboratory research experience, and/or (iii) ALAT certification. Some knowledge of basic mouse husbandry is required.

Candidate will need to demonstrate aptitudes in foresight, planning and ability to organize and schedule the many tasks associated with running a gnotobiotic mouse facility. Candidate should be flexible, excited to wear the many hats to meet the dynamic needs of a startup environment, proactive and positive. This person should also have a desire to contribute to a vibrant and dynamic culture.

Some ability to build and assemble equipment is desired. Understanding the principals of sterilization is a key facet of the position. Must have ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
